*AMCRON 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPATION*
The Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria
(AMCRON) cordially invites all its members, scholars and professionals
in the communication industry to its 3rd International Conference/Annual
General Meeting.
THEME: *COMMUNICATION, MASS MEDIA & GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA: TRAJECTORIES,
EXPECTATIONS AND REALITIES.*
DATES: December 6 & 7, 2023
MODE: Blended (Physical & Virtual)
*Preamble*
Recent happenings regarding governance in Africa show that the
communication gap between the government and the governed is challenged.
Although the level of the challenges varies across different societies
on the continent, what is certain is that the tunes played across the
spheres are discordant. For instance, analysts have expressed fears
about the long-term effect of the re-emergence of military coup d’etats
in Africa. Countries like Burkina Faso, Chad, Gabon, Guinea, Mali,
Niger, and Sudan have recently fallen victim to the aberration. Many
African countries live under the siege of state terrorism, and
dictatorial leadership which has been entrenched by forced tenure
elongation by sit-tight leaders. Some have blamed the situation on the
cultural degradation across many African societies, which has pushed
communal values and norms to the back.
Amid this quagmire is the role of the mass media which has since gone
beyond the conventional to include the powerful social media. Often, the
media has been accused of contributing significantly to the discordant
tunes among the players in governance. The nature of media ownership,
the entrenched interest of media owners and the constantly evolving
social media dynamics have meant that the communication and
conversations will keep changing. However, to what extent these changes
are in favour of the continent remains a question that must be probed.
These perspectives and many more are what media and communication
scholars and professionals will attempt to provide answers to at the 3rd
edition of the International Conference of the Association of Media and
Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON). The conference will be
the first IN-PERSON conference of the Association and it will offer
participants greater opportunity for networking, collaboration and
