*Description*

The Department of Communication, Journalism & Media at Suffolk University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor with a start date of August 1, 2023. The department seeks a communication generalist with an emphasis on media and film. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses at the introductory level as well as upper-level courses. Courses include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Communication, Principles of Oral Communication, Visual Aesthetics, Media and Film Criticism, Media Effects and Audiences, and Seminar in Media/Film. Ability to contribute courses focused also on Global & Cultural Communication is a plus. The teaching workload is 8 courses with one course-release for substantial student academic advising responsibilities. Service to the department and university beyond the classroom is also expected through committee membership, contributing to department meetings, programs and events, and advising/mentoring students.

Our Communication, Journalism and Media program has an emphasis on social justice issues. Faculty in the department are deeply committed to this mission in their teaching, research and service and take advantage of our location in the heart of Boston to design exciting real-world experiential learning opportunities that engage students in advancing social justice. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated track record of integrating social justice issues and/or issues with political significance into their teaching and service.


The successful candidate will have a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and curricular diversity, mentoring and advising students—especially first-generation college students who comprise 40% of our student body.

Candidates must hold a PhD by the commencement of the 2023/2024 academic year; ABD candidates in the final stages of completing their degrees will be considered.
