*A Two-Day Event for PhDs and Early-Career Researchers***

*(16-17 May 2023, Northumbria University, UK)*


PhD students and Early Career Researchers working in the broad field of 
“Horror Studies”, are invited to submit abstracts about their research 
to deliver at an in-person networking event, hosted by the Horror and 
Cult Media Research Group at Northumbria University, UK, on *16-17 May 
2023.*

The workshop is split across two days, and will comprise short academic 
presentations, as well as a series of masterclasses and roundtables 
delivered by academics and industry professionals.

Speakers will each deliver a *5-10 minute talk* about their research to 
their peers and to a panel of Northumbria’s academic experts in horror 
and horror-adjacent media, providing a short introduction to their 
current project and identifying several questions for discussion. After 
each presentation, there will be an opportunity for the academic panel 
and other workshop participants to feedback to each speaker, and to ask 
follow-up questions.

Special events across the two days include:

  * A masterclass with Prano Bailey-Bond (director, /Censor/)
  * A masterclass with Nia Edwards-Behi (director, Abertoir
    International Horror Festival)
  * A session on book publishing delivered by Matthew Frost (Senior
    Commissioning Editor, Manchester University Press)
  * A roundtable discussion about the state of the field featuring
    Northumbria Faculty and soon-to-be-announced special guests

The workshop is intended as a networking opportunity for scholars with 
shared research interests, and to provide a relatively informal 
opportunity for those newer to academia to engage in dialogue with more 
established researchers.

There are only *twelve spaces* available. The event is free to attend.

The deadline for abstracts is 23.59 (GMT) Friday 31 March 2023. To

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their proposal within 7 
days of the deadline.
