Please find below information about two vacancies for roles on a media literacy project based at the LSE. Please note the short application deadline (24 October).

Based at: Department of Media and Communications, London School of Economics and Political Science

Accountable to: Project Leader

*Job summary*

The Research Assistant will work on a project focused on cross-sector challenges to media literacy. The project will examine the contemporary challenges faced by stakeholders delivering media literacy initiatives, and identify policy opportunities for realising an effective media literacy strategy in the UK, in light of those challenges. The project will combine mapping of stakeholders, stakeholder consultation via a workshop, focus groups and survey, and comparative research on international media literacy interventions.

**

*Main duties and responsibilities *

  * Work with the Project Leader to develop the research methodology
  * Map possible participants for the stakeholder consultation exercise
  * Attend workshop and focus groups and carry out initial analysis of
    discussions
  * Develop and deliver a stakeholder survey and carry out initial
    analysis of the findings
  * Produce case studies and summaries of international approaches to
    media literacy
  * Design draft policy opportunities for the consulting client

*Essential requirements include: *

**

  * A doctoral degree, or being in the final stages of a doctoral degree
  * Knowledge of the media literacy industry and policy debates in the UK
  * Experience of using survey and focus group research methods
  * Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  * Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills

The role runs for 40 days/280 hours between 31 October 2022 and 30 April 2023. Attendance at meetings and events will be required but some of the work can also be carried out remotely. The time requirement will be greater during November 2022 - January 2023. The role is paid at £400 per day.

The Events Manager will work on a project focused on cross-sector challenges to media literacy. The project will examine the contemporary challenges faced by stakeholders delivering media literacy initiatives, and identify policy opportunities for realising an effective media literacy strategy in the UK, in light of those challenges. The events manager will support the delivery of a one-day stakeholder workshop and additional focus groups.

*Main duties and responsibilities *

**

  * Lead on the organisation/logistics of a one day, in-person
    stakeholder consultation event, including identification of key
    contacts to invite.
  * Lead on the organisation/logistics of two focus groups.
  * Liaise with the consulting client on event organisation.

*Essential requirements include: *

**

  * Experience of setting up and running in-person workshops or other
    complex events
  * Excellent communication skills with a range of audiences
  * Excellent organisational skills
  * Ability to multitask and manage time under pressure

The event manager must be available to work for approximately 7 days during November and December 2022. Days worked will depend on the project schedule and will not be flexible, although some of the work can be carried out remotely. The role is paid at £300 per day.
