The University of Potsdam has a total of over 3,000 faculty and staff members and is located in one of Germany’s most scenic areas. The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Arts, Institute of Arts and Media invites applications for the following position: Academic Staff Member Requisition No.: 307/2022 The position is available from May 01, 2022. The salary is determined by the collective bargaining agreement for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13). The position is for 40 hours per week (100% of a full-time contract). This is a temporary position limited to a term of 30 months in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Research Act (WissZeitVG). Project description: Weather Reports – Wind as Model, Media, and Experience (WeRep) engages with wind as an aesthetic and mediated part of contemporary culture from scientific analysis to everyday experience. WeRep builds an interdisciplinary research focus on the modern media cultural context of wind as it becomes contextualised in relation to contemporary climate, earth and ocean sciences and its various aesthetic meanings. A leading question of the project is how is wind perceived? This question is specified to bodily perception, cultural context, and scientific modelling and knowledge so as to bring different perspectives that mediate between embodied experience, data practices and aesthetic production. The project is led by Birgit Schneider (Potsdam, Germany PI), Ryan Bishop (Southampton, UK, PI), and Jussi Parikka (Southampton, UK Co-Investigator). Responsibilities: The postdoc will be the researcher and coordinator for the international research project “Weather Reports - Wind as Model, Media, and Experience” (WeRep), working together with project members in Potsdam and Southampton, UK. The position should be used to advance own research in the thematic field of the project. Ideally, the applicant has already conducted research on questions of ecology, eco data or elementary media and brings experience in interdisciplinary work or artistic research. The organizational tasks of the position include supervision of workshops, meetings and travel, web announcements and project communication. In addition, there are research activities and editorial tasks like the coordination of publications. There is no teaching obligation. The work will be done in close exchange with the project team. The project language will be English. Requirements: Doctoral Degree (or equivalent) in media or cultural studies, cultural geography, history of science, design theory or environmental humanities. Ability to work in a team and independently on your own responsibility. Very good English language and writing skills. Publishing at international level.
