*Full PhD Scholarship at Coventry University: "**Technology-Enabled Monitoring, Privacy and Datafication of Home Working in the UK"*

Coventry University is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a fully-funded PhD studentship within theCentre for Business in Society <https://www.coventry.ac.uk/research/areas-of-research/business-in-society/>. Applications from UK/International/EU students are welcome. The PhD student will study the impact of technology-enabled monitoring for home workers in the UK. The project will be located within theData, Organisations and Society <https://www.coventry.ac.uk/research/areas-of-research/business-in-society/our-research/cyber-security-management-privacy-and-data-driven-innovation/>research cluster.

/The Pandemic has changed work practices with an unprecedented rise in homeworking. These practices look set to persist post-Pandemic, as demands for flexible and homeworking rise. This trend has increased technology-enabled monitoring levels for many workers, leading to questions about the implications for their working practices, datafication, privacy and wellbeing./

/This project will explore how homeworkers’ experience technology-enabled workplace monitoring and the data that employers gather for this purpose. The interface between workplace monitoring and working practices will be investigated, to understand the positive and negative consequences for trust within the workplace, homeworkers’ wellbeing, privacy and vulnerability. Workers in different roles, sectors and at different levels of seniority will be studied. As well as contributing theoretically, the project will provide policy and practice implications on appropriate technology-enabled workplace monitoring and the protection of workers’ information rights./


Eligibility: UK/EU/International graduates with the required entry requirements

Funding details: Bursary plus tuition fees plus additional allowances

Duration: Full-Time – 3-3.5 years fixed term

Application deadline: 16 May 2022

Interview date: Will be confirmed to shortlisted candidates

Start date: September 2022
