Sat Sep 04 15:58:48 GMT 2021
CALL FOR PAPERS
6th Annual Blanquerna-Emerson Global Summit Responding to a Disrupted
World: New Narratives and Mediated Realities
Within a global pandemic, we currently live in a time of uncertainty,
doubts, and opportunities. This conference invites us to rethink the
role of communication in times of disruption. Civil society,
governments, public sector organizations, and
businesses must all face new challenges.
The conference welcomes papers dealing with new narratives,
communication strategies, messages, storytelling, and publics as they
relate to the current and past elements of social, political, and
economic disruption: the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis,
globalization and business challenges, domestic terrorism, the rise of
authoritarianism, political polarization, and widespread protest
movements, and insurrections, including the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the
U.S. Capitol, as well as current and historical protest/insurrection
movements of the past in other parts of the world.
The summit, organized by the Blanquerna-Emerson Center for Global
Communication, will take place at the Blanquerna School of Communication
and International Relations-Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona on
October 7-9, 2021. The conference is addressed to scholars, students,
independent researchers, communication practitioners, governmental
officials, and business leaders.
A 250-word abstract is due via e-mail by September 17, 2021. The
abstract should express the purpose, methodology, findings,
implications, and originality of the study. You can submit your abstract
by completing the following online form:
https://forms.gle/NqknuvgVjQy9SpVZ8 <https://forms.gle/NqknuvgVjQy9SpVZ8>.
Email acceptance notifications will be sent to the first author of the
submission by September 24, 2021. All authors whose abstract is selected
for the conference must submit a full-paper version of their work ahead
of the conference. This paper should be between 3000 and 6000 words
(excluding references). The paper must be in Word format with a 12-point
font and have 1.5 line spacing. Selected conference papers could be
published in conference proceedings based on the publisher’s interests.
The conference is partnered with several top-tier, international
academic journals, including:
● Trípodos
● American Behavioral Scientist
The conference will have a hybrid format, with in-person and virtual
panels. The welcome event will be at 3pm (9am in Boston) on October 7,
2021 (with one panel), with most panels on October 8, 2021, and
in-person cultural activities in Barcelona on October 9, 2021.
