*AHRC Midlands4Cities funding for UK/EU students*
The AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training
Partnership (M4C) brings together eight leading universities across the
Midlands to support the professional and personal development of the
next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. M4C is a
collaboration between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City
University, University of Warwick, Coventry University, University of
Leicester, De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University and The
University of Nottingham.
M4C is awarding up to 80 doctoral studentships for UK/EU applicants for
2019 through an open competition and 11 Collaborative Doctoral Awards
(CDA) through a linked competition with a range of partner
organisations in the cultural, creative and heritage sector.
The Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies at the University
of Nottingham is inviting applications from students whose research
interests connect with our fields of expertise in:
* Cultural and Screen Industries
* Film, Television and Cultural History
* New Media
* Critical Theory and Cultural Studies
* Gender and Queer Theory
* Hollywood Studies
* East Asian and Global Cinema
* Digital Humanities
* Visual and Sound Cultures
* Mass Communications and Journalism
* History of Art, including the following areas:
* Venetian Renaissance Art and Architecture
* French Art and Architecture, c.1600-1900, inc. relations with East Asia
* Visual Cultures in Italy from c.1850
* Histories of Dress and Fashion
* North American Visual Cultures since 1945, inc. Photography, Counter
Cultures
* Contemporary Art and Memory
* Representations of Health and Illness
* Art and Gender, Class and Race
* Visualising Local, Regional, and National Identity
The Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies is a pioneering hub
of innovation in cultural and media research. It ranked 5th among
Russell Group Universities in the most recent Research Excellence
Framework (2014), and 83% of our staff research was rated as
world-leading or internationally recognized. The department provides a
vibrant intellectual environment for its large community of postgraduate
students. It leads the Centre for Critical Theory, the Centre for
Research in Visual Culture and is home to the Institute for Screen
Industries Research and the Centre for Contemporary East-Asian Cultural
Studies.

The deadline for M4C funding applications is *14 January 2019 (noon)*,
by which time students must have applied for a place to study and have
ensured that two academic references are submitted using the
Midlands4Cities online reference form.
