Introduction
UCLouvain is a comprehensive university offering, in the context of the
present position, the opportunity of cross-disciplinary research and
teaching collaborations. The position is attached to the *Faculty of
Economic, Social and Political Sciences and Communication *and the
*Institute Language & Communication* which offer opportunities for
diverse and stimulating teaching as well as an environment to carry out
ambitious research. The Louvain-la-Neuve site offers a unique modern
living environment inside a naturally preserved neighborhood,
conveniently connected to the heart of Europe.
Description of the mission
*Teaching*
The post-holder will deliver teaching in the curricula of the Master’s
degree in Journalism and of the Bachelor’s degree in Information and
communication. The courses he/she will teach will essentially cover
subject matters related to the research fields in journalism described
below. In order to ensure the quality of his/her teaching, a knowledge
of the news media in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and in Flanders
will eventually be necessary. The teaching of journalism practices in
this context requires an excellent command of the French language.
*Research *
The post-holder will carry on research on news gathering and monitoring
methods (from local to international level) and/or on community
journalism (from local to international level) and/or on innovative news
models and their socio-economic assessment. He / she will conduct
research at the Research Observatory on Media and journalism (ORM),
within the Institute for Language and Communication (IL&C).
The required field of expertise covers the following research domains:
journalistic uses of emerging technology, news gathering and monitoring
methods, design and development of innovative narrative and
visualization processes and devices for news media, social sciences
research methods relevant for journalism.
The candidate will work in the field of journalism and in the strongly
interdisciplinary and transverse field of information and communication.
He / she will be able to work in association with other research
entities, and to maintain a dialogue with the professional worlds of
journalism and media.

General conditions
*Tasks : the applicant will:*
- be responsible for teaching courses at all study levels (i.e.
undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as in programs of
continuing education;
- supervise the final diploma research (i.e. theses) of undergraduate
and graduate students, as well as PhD theses;
- be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programs;
- contribute to the international visibility of the University through
teaching and research excellence;
- Be available to ensure, in the long term, different service activities
and responsibilities within the University and its entities.
- contribute to activities of the University with a societal impact in
the fields of the economy, socio-cultural changes or cooperation with
developing countries.
*Qualifications : the applicant must have*
- a PhD degree in Information and Communication or any related discipline;
- a significant scientific record with international publications;
- either studied abroad for an extensive period or have had substantial
experience outside UCLouvain;
- experience in and the aptitude for teaching at university level,
demonstrated if possible by formal assessments;
- the capacity to work within a team of teachers and to integrate
research findings into teaching;
- creativity and must be open to teaching innovation and
interdisciplinarity;
- the capacities required to undertake high-level academic research:
capacity to raise research fundings, to supervise projects, to animate
and lead a research team;
- have team management and communication skills, including if possible
fluency in French and English, spoken and written. Otherwise, you will
be asked to acquire them within two years after taking office, in order
to be able to communicate and teach in these languages. Knowledge of
other languages is an additional asset.
