Free symposium: 30 Years of PR @ Stirling: Critical reflections on past, 
present and future directions in public relations

We cordially invite you to attend free symposium ’30 Years of PR @ 
Stirling: Critical reflections on past, present and future directions in 
public relations’ to celebrates three decades of public relations 
education at the University of Stirling. The symposium will be held on 
Wednesday , 17 October 2018 at the Stirling Court Hotel, University of 
Stirling and will include panel and roundtable discussions with 
prominent public relations scholars who have played an important part in 
(hi)storyof public relations at Stirling and beyond.

The University of Stirling was the first in the UK – and one of the 
first in Europe – to introduce a degree in public relations (at 
postgraduate level). Several prominent public relations academics and 
practitioners have completed their education at Stirling. As such, it 
has had a significant influence on public relations education and 
research in the UK and beyond. Stirling is known as the “cradle” of 
critical public relations scholarship and has through the years hosted 
and brought together world-leading academics and played a central role 
in pursuing new directions and shaping public relations research agenda.

The programme is as follows:

Prof Tom Watson, Emeritus Professor, Bournemouth University: The World’s 
PR: Towards a more diverse history of public relations

Dr Lee Edwards, London School of Economics and Political Science: The 
utility of critical public relations in a world gone mad

13.00 – 14.00 Lunch

14.00 – 15.30 Origins and development of public relations at Stirling

Prof Danny Moss, University of Chester: A Master’s or not a Master’s 
that was the question: Origins, evolution and where to next?
