[ecrea] Call for Applications: Postdoc at the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School

Fri Mar 30 07:42:05 GMT 2018

The Center on Media and Child Health (CMCH) is seeking candidates for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School with an active post-doctoral association.

CMCH is an academic research center whose mission is to educate and empower children and those who care for them to create and consume media in ways that optimize children’s health and development. CMCH focuses on media as a powerful environmental health influence and seeks to understand the positive and negative health impacts media can have and find ways of making media the most positive possible influence in children’s lives.

The focus of the funded postdoctoral position is to study the impact of digital and traditional play on the development of children. CMCH is currently completing a 2-year, 4-wave study in the United States and Mexico to examine the associations between different types of play and digital media use on children’s cognitive and social-emotional development and executive functioning. The selected fellow will be an essential part of the CMCH research team and will be expected to participate in quantitative and qualitative data analysis as well as data management and processing. The fellow will also lead and/or co-author the writing of scientific manuscripts.  Publications will include those prescribed by the existing study protocols, as well as those conceived by the post-doctoral fellow. Time will also be held for the fellow to contribute to other CMCH research projects involving teens and young adults, assist with grant writing, and pursue independent work under the mentorship of the Center’s Director and lead research faculty member. A CMCH Librarian and Research Assistant will help support the work of the fellow, with occasional additional support from student interns. The fellow also may consult with hospital biostatisticians and methodological experts.

The successful candidate will be oriented to the Division of Adolescent Medicine (where CMCH is based) along with an interdisciplinary group of fellows. The division provides new fellows optional training in teaching, qualitative and quantitative research methods, writing, and other topics. The fellow also may participate in additional workshops, courses, and training throughout Boston Children’s Hospital and the larger Harvard community. The successful candidate will also have access to multiple full-time staff members dedicated to assisting with career development, and access to multiple post-doc-led organizations. Courses or additional training at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health may also be made available.

The fellowship can begin at the earliest convenience of the successful candidate, preferably on or before August 1, 2018 but no later than September 1, 2018.

Compensation includes salary commensurate with the Division of Adolescent Medicine and NIH guidelines for post-doctoral fellows (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-17-003.html) and a generous benefits package.
