The Centre for Media Research, Bath Spa University *

The Centre for Media Research at Bath Spa University welcomes applications from prospective students within the fields of film, television, media, publishing and cultural studies, through its involvement in the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWW2 DTP). The partnership gives the Arts and Humanities researcher access to the experience, funding and skills that are essential for success in this new collaborative research world.

The Centre for Media Research <https://www.bathspa.ac.uk/schools/liberal-arts/research/centre-for-media-research/> supports innovative, multi-perspectival research projects that take theoretical and/or practice-based approaches, and benefits from a number of specialist research clusters. Research students will have the opportunity to join these clusters and take part in a range of our research activities, including symposia, conferences and public engagement events. Research students will also have the opportunity to contribute to and join the editorial team of our /International Journal of Creative Media Research <https://www.creativemediaresearch.org/aims-scope>,/ an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed and open access journal devoted to pushing forward the approaches to and possibilities for publishing creative media-based research. Our interdisciplinary research clusters comprise: Digital Materialities, Film & Social Context, and Play & Multiplatform. Proposals are welcome from prospective PhD students interested in the Research Centre's core areas of specialism, including:

  * Digital cultures and materialities
  * Media arts and practices
  * Film, documentary and its social contexts
  * Gender and representation in the media
  * Gameplay and video game studies
  * Multiplatform and transmedia industries
  * Global music cultures

We also welcome proposals that have an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach embedded that draw on the expertise across Bath Spa University, for example projects engaging with our University-wide themes of Creative Industries and Environmental Humanities. The Centre for Media Research has strong links with the Centre for Creative Industries' South West Creative Technology Network <https://www.bathspa.ac.uk/research-and-enterprise/research-centres/centre-for-cultural-and-creative-industries/southwest-creative-technology-network/> and the AHRC Bristol & Bath Creative Industries Clusters Programme <https://www.bathspa.ac.uk/news-and-events/news/ahrc-creative-industries-clusters-programme/>.

*SWW DTP Application Guidelines 2018-19*
Applications for the South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWW2) for 2018/19 entry are now open. SWW2 is consortium of Aberystwyth University, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, Bath Spa University, University of Bristol, Cardiff University, Cranfield University, University of Exeter, University of Reading, University of Southampton, and the University of the West of England. The programme will offer 200 awards across five student cohorts with a proportion of the awards offered being Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs). The first student intake will be in 2019/2020.
