Sun Dec 02 06:28:31 GMT 2018
WORKSHOP
LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION RESEARCH GROUP
MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY LONDON
9-10 January 2019
*BIOSEMIOTICS – INTEGRATIONISM – PHILOSOPHY OF COMMUNICATION*
In 2015, Adrian Pablé and Christopher Hutton wrote /in Signs, Meaning
and Experience – Integrational Approaches to Language and Semiotics/:
“The relationship between the individual self, the species and the
environment is of central concern to semiotic theory. Whereas
integrationism takes a largely anthropocentric view of the self,
post-Peircean semiotics views human beings within a much wider
biosemiotic frame”. In the three years since this landmark volume,
integrationism’s philosophy of communication has developed apace,
particularly in respect of theorising agency and the sign.
This workshop is designed to foster further development of the interface
of integrationism, philosophy of communication and biosemiotics.
Organising committee:
Paul Cobley (London)
Adrian Pablé (Hong Kong)
Johan Siebers (London)
