Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies Department of Critical Studies, UBC Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada Lecturer – Media and Cultural Studies

The Department of Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus invites applications for a full-time Lecturer appointment in Media and Cultural Studies commencing September 1, 2018.  The position is expected to be for a term of up to two years and will entail a probationary first year. Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of excellence in teaching, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.

We seek an individual to teach the following courses in our undergraduate Cultural Studies and English program over the next 24-month period.  Courses include:

-              CULT 100: Media and Popular Cultures in Global Context

-              CULT 101: Cultural Studies Practices

-              A range of upper level cultural studies courses relating to the individual’s research in both terms.   The instructor will be expected to offer three course per fall and spring term and one first-year course in the summer term.

-              Ability to teach first-year composition course is an asset.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Cultural Studies or a cognate field, evidence of an active research profile in media studies, and prior university teaching experience.

Applications include a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy/interests, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (which might include a teaching portfolio, student evaluations, peer teaching reviews, professional development of teaching, teaching awards and nominations). Candidates must include the names of three references.
