[ecrea] CfP “Communication, gender-based violence and practices of resistance: innovative narrative for social change”
Wed Jan 17 13:29:05 GMT 2018
We are pleased to announce a call for papers on “Communication,
gender-based violence and practices of resistance: innovative
narrative for social change” in the journal Teknokultura. The
journal is indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI),
open peer-reviewed and trilingual (it accepts articles in
English, Spanish, and Portuguese).
Narratives on gender-based violence have been elaborated
following a hegemonic frame of representation that situates the
woman-victim in a paradigm that, apart from not enabling her
agency being recognized, prevents the emergence of
non-conforming stories. This special issue focuses, however, on
enquiring about new locus of enunciation about gender-based
violence and social change. This includes the search for
representational initiatives that innovate in relation to
practices of subjectivation and construction of the victims’
memory. The proposal is built upon a cross-cutting approach that
gathers intersectional perspectives. Therefore, we seek
proposals that address gender in relation to other categories
such as race, class, sexual orientation, age, origin, etc. These
proposals would explore, in a theoretical or applied way, the
concept of ethical witnessing (K. Oliver, 2001, Witnessing:
Beyond Recognition) where the politicization of the spectatorial
act can produce both social change and a symbolic reparation of
violence.
We seek papers that cover the following topics:
A counter-hegemonic representational frame of gender-based
violence:
- Counter-hegemonic narratives on gender-based violence
- Representations of the victim of violence as a subject-agent
endowed with agency
- Dissident voices and bodies that subvert hegemonic frames of
victimization
- Alternative discursive strategies of gender-based violence on
social media
- Cyber-activism against gender-based violence on YouTube
- Transformative representations on gender-based violence in
popular culture
Discourse, resistance, and symbolic reparation:
- Media as agents of symbolic reparation of victims of violence
- Women survivors and practices of resistance
- Feminist influencers: discourses of feminist activists and/or
celebrity activism
- Online sorority: the construction of collective support among
women on gender-based violence
- Re-politicization of female trauma
- Rupture of the condition of “injurability” of women for being
female.
Ethical witnessing and social change:
- Ethical implications of the spectatorial act of massive
accounts of sexist violence
- Capacity of response and responsibility of publics towards
gender-based violence
- Communicative practices that give account of the
subject-victim as Other in their ethical dimension
- Re-signification of the collective narrative through online
campaigns with testimonies of gender-based violence.
Submission deadline: March, 15th, 2018. Early submission is
encouraged.

submission in the journal webpage:
