The Department of Media, Culture and Language at the University of Roehampton is currently advertising the following positions:


L/SL in Digital Media Practice

L/SL in Media and Communications

L/SL in Film Practice


Over 70% of the Department's academic staff are research active and the department has a vibrant research culture. Our four research centres in: English Language and Linguistics (CRELL), Film and Audio-visual Cultures (CRFAC), Translation and Transcultural Studies (CRTTS) and Hispanic Research Centre (HRC) are roughly designed around academic programmes, but with growing trans-disciplinary and interdisciplinary awareness. The following Head of Department position is currently advertised at the University of Roehampton in the Department of Media, Culture and Language.


Salary: From £71,703 (Senior Staff Salary Scale)


Applications are invited for a full-time, without-term Head of Department in Media, Culture and Language. The successful candidate will provide the academic leadership and vision for the development and delivery of an excellent portfolio of activity, creating an outstanding student experience, a vibrant research culture, and enhancing income generation. The Head of Department will have a strategic focus, managing resources and supporting staff to develop and deliver to the highest quality. The successful candidate will need imagination, determination, and excellent skills in communication to lead this diverse Department. Applicants should be experienced, capable and collaborative leaders, with the ability to inspire staff and students.


This is a particularly exciting time for the Department which will be moving to a new teaching and media centre in Autumn 2018 with a range of new film, television and digital media studios, specialist teaching rooms, and an exhibition space. We are therefore seeking candidates who have a strong vision and ambition for the Department and its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This is also an exciting time for the university, with investment in new curricula, a new £35m state-of-the-art library and student accommodation, the development of a number of external partnerships across the globe and plans for more doctoral scholarships.
