---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Organizational and Strategic Communication Section of ECREA (European Communication Research and Education Association) is proud to launch hereby a Call for Papers for the Conference on "Corporate Social Responsibility and Citizen's Activism in times of political disruption" to be held at the University Málaga (Spain), on the 1st and 2nd of February 2018.

Abstract deadline: 15 August 2017 (send your 500 words proposal to (OSC2018Conference /at/ uma.es))

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE TOPIC: "Corporate Social Responsibility and Citizen's Activism in times of political disruption"

This topic allows contributors to challenge and join in discussions and thinking about the role of Public Relations (PR) and corporate communication in times of political disruption. This can be manifested in citizen and corporate activism - for instance when businesses, brands, citizens and NGOs take political sides (as has been seen recently with Uber, Starbucks, Facebook, AirBnB and the National Park Services positions over political events such as President Trump’s anti-Muslim Ban and immigration policies) and also citizens having to find their spaces of action and claims both in front of organisations that openly ignore their demands (for instance, the case Amazon in Scotland ) and of governments that do that too (Trump, Corbyn, May, Rajoy, …). These three actors (companies/brands; public institutions/political parties and their supporters); and citizens (who may be protesting as workers, refugees or immigrants or because they are denied citizenry) create a strategic-communicative hot spot which is ripe for research and discussion, not only for PR but for all areas of communicative disciplines.

Also relevant for discussion and exploration is the lived experiences of internet activists in these spheres - particularly in relation to trolling/harassment, issues of diversity. Papers could also explore whether online spaces allow and empower diverse groups to protest or whether protest is still a middle class and privileged occupation which essentially protects majority interests through the guise of radical activism.

Our aim in this conference is to open up the discussion about the role of communication and digital tools as a proponent of real spaces for dialogue and citizen’s participation in today society.

We welcome abstracts that apply this approach and we will invite submissions adopting topics which include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
• CSR
• Citizen’s participation and activism
• Political disruption
• Business and politics
• Stakeholder approach to business
• Participatory communication processes
