We’re delighted to announce our Call for Papers for TaPRA’s Performer Training Working Group Interim Event

*Performer Training and Media Ecologies*

The work of the contemporary performer regularly traverses different forms of media. Once discrete fields – such as theatre, film, television, radio – have been joined by hybrid forms which call on the performer to reshape their work in exciting new ways. Media convergence is an industrial and artistic reality, and this research and practice event will explore the role and training of the performer in today’s rich and complex media landscape. Whilst TaPRA focuses on theatre and performance research, we would also welcome contributions from researchers who explore performance from other fields, such as film and television studies, music, interactive media and digital technologies.

Some of the areas we’d like to explore include:

-Performer training and interactive technologies

-Performer training and multi-platform theatre

-Performer training and live theatre broadcast

-Apps as performer training tools

-New technologies as rehearsal tools

-Performer training for green screen, motion capture and gaming

-Media convergence and the performer’s skill-set

-Performance and the non-human

We always look to include research from postgraduate and early career researchers as well as experienced scholars. Practice as Research is a critical component of the Working Group, and so we welcome demonstrations and practical research papers too. We invite proposals for:

-10 minute provocations

-20 minute written papers

-30 minute working progress demonstrations/presentations

*About the Performer Training Working Group*

The Performer Training Working Group is a vibrant group of scholars and practitioners exploring a wide range of performance training practices. The group includes post-graduate students, early career academics as well as experienced and senior researchers. The group has members from around Europe and the UK as well as papers from around the world. As such, presentations and discussions embrace a wide variety of cultures and performance traditions. Similarly rich is the formats of the contributions to the group, which include written and pre-circulated papers, practice-as-research demonstrations and workshops. The group has been meeting for eleven years and has produced several collaborative outputs, including a variety of contributions to the thrice-yearly journal, /Theatre, Dance and Performance Training/, dedicated to training in all its manifestations, and the associated blog http://theatredanceperformancetraining.org <http://theatredanceperformancetraining.org/>.

This event is free and registration will open in a few weeks' time. (You will need to be a member of TaPRA but can join for £10 to attend the event) There will be funds available for postgraduate researchers to attend.
