The Gender and Sexuality Studies Program and the Department of Communication at Tulane University invite applications for a renewable, full-time, non-tenure track, Professor of Practice position beginning in August 2017.

The position involves a 3/3 teaching load, with two courses in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and one course in Communication. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching the introductory course in gender and sexuality; the intermediate course concerning identity, difference, and inequality; and a related media studies course in the candidate’s areas of expertise. An intersectional approach to feminist and queer theory would be welcome, as are candidates with a background in media histories and archives, fan studies, cultural production, sound studies, convergence cultures, and Internet and mobile media. A doctorate in the candidate’s academic discipline by time of appointment is required.

The Gender & Sexuality Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program, with faculty from across the School of Liberal Arts. The program offers both an undergraduate major, minor and graduate student certificate. Communication is an interdisciplinary department in the School of Liberal Arts specializing in the critical study of media, technology and transnational communication. With more than 200 undergraduate majors, COMM’s full-time faculty offers a range of theoretical, historical, and practice-oriented courses.
