The School of Communication is seeking applicants for two tenure-track 
faculty positions that are described here:


*Assistant Professor in Digital Media Production and Studies*

The University of Hartford’s School of Communication seeks a 
tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in digital media 
production and media studies for a full-time position beginning August 
2017. A minimum of a terminal degree of Ph.D. or MFA is required and 
professional experience is preferred. Applicants who have completed all 
degree requirements except dissertation or final MFA project will be 
considered.

Preferred candidates will have collegiate-level teaching experience and 
professional experience and be able to teach a variety of courses 
related to video production in a studio environment and single-camera 
format, post-production editing, and video production for clients. We 
seek a candidate who has experience teaching editing software AVID and 
Adobe Cloud programs such as Premiere. Teaching responsibilities will 
also include an introductory survey course in media, and courses that 
explore issues related to media industries, content and audiences along 
with innovative courses in the candidate's area of specialization in 
digital media production and/or studies. The faculty member will teach 
these courses in the existing Communication major and play a significant 
role in developing a new program in digital media and journalism. The 
teaching load is three courses each semester. There will be an 
opportunity to work with students involved in the student television 
network (STN2) and radio stations (WWUH and WSAM), campus newspaper (The 
Informer), and also create new student groups related to media.

Candidates should incorporate high impact practices in their teaching 
and prepare students for professional success. Opportunities exist for 
teaching courses in the School’s Master of Arts degree program, and our 
innovative, interdisciplinary All-University Curriculum. We seek a 
person who will take an active role in revitalizing and expanding our 
curriculum in media and journalism in bold directions, address how these 
areas have been transformed by new technologies and attract new kinds of 
students, and who has an interest and ability to teach both in person 
and online. Applicants who aspire to enhance the diversity of those 
working in professions related to media and journalism and the 
representation of diverse communities in media are valued.

Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate expertise in a scholarly 
research program and/or creative work in some area related to media. 
Research leading to publication and/or peer-reviewed distribution of 
creative work in video production and service to the University are 
required.

*Associate Professor and Program Director of Cinema*

The University of Hartford School of Communication, Cinema Program, 
invites applications for a Program Director and Associate Professor in 
filmmaking, beginning Fall 2017. MFA or PhD and college teaching 
experience required; college administrative experience preferred. This 
position is tenure track and the teaching load is two courses per 
semester. We seek a dynamic leader to direct the program and work with 
colleagues in Cinema and the School of Communication to help develop new 
curriculum/program ideas as well as to provide administrative oversight 
of budget, course scheduling, and program assessment. The successful 
candidate will also teach a variety of undergraduate courses in 
filmmaking (e.g., Introduction to Filmmaking, Cinematography, Narrative 
Filmmaking, Documentary Filmmaking, as well as upper-level courses in 
the candidate’s area of specialization). There will also be 
opportunities to teach in our innovative, interdisciplinary 
All-University Curriculum. Cinema at Hartford is a humanities BA program
