[ecrea] ORM conference about Public authorities, print press and digital transition”: the case of small media markets in Europe?

Thu Mar 30 22:37:05 GMT 2017

What is the position of public authorities about the digital transition of print media? Do they support the transition or do they continue with traditional State Aids for print media- if they exist? Does the limited area of media market on which these systems have implemented have an influence of this situation ? What are the possibilities for small States to help newspapers and magazines challenged by international giants like Facebook and Google on the markets of online news and advertising? Does the European copyright law remain relevant in the digital age to protect the reproduction of publications of print publishers which implanted on small markets?

These are the main questions raised by the Research Observatory on journalism and Media (ORM) of the Catholic University of Louvain. In this perspective, *ORM organizes an international conference “Public authorities, print media and digital transition”: the case of small media markets in Europe”. It will take place on Tuesday **May 9th 2017 (02 PM-06:30 PM) and on Wednesday **May 10th (09:00 AM-01:00 PM).*

Media socioeconomics experts, teachers and researchers, mainly from Europe, will analyze the situation in Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, Scotland, Denmark, Baltic countries and Quebec.

The symposium will also offer the opportunity to open the academic debate to European and Belgian parliamentarians and print publishers. They will share their views and ideas on the topic during two round tables (see programme below [attachment removed]).

You are, with your colleagues, invited to take part to this conference, which is open to everyone. The entrance is free, provided that you previously register online:https://pouvoirs-publics-presse-ecrite-petits-marches.eventbrite.fr <https://pouvoirs-publics-presse-ecrite-petits-marches.eventbrite.fr/> )
