The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS CEU) in collaboration with the Visual Studies Platform (VSP) invites applications for a four months VSP Fellow for the academic year 2017/2018 (Fall/Winter term). The residential fellowship is offered on a competitive basis to a junior scholar whose research engages innovatively with various visual media including film and digital technologies. The fellow will teach one course as part of the Visual Theory and Practice curriculum that will be open to all students of the university. The program aims to promote projects that would advance the development of Visual Studies at CEU and contribute to its curricula. As fellow of the IAS he/she will also be part of its fellow community and may participate in all IAS activities. http://ias.ceu.edu/ VSP is an interdisciplinary initiative designed to explore and propose innovative approaches to research and teaching visual imagery in the humanities and social sciences and foster expertise in this field across the university. Fellowship includes:
VSP fellowship includes a net allowance of EUR 1,500 per month + accommodation in the Wallenberg Guesthouse, shared office space at IAS / CEU premises as available and support from the Visual Studies Platform and CEU Mirabaud Media Lab. Awarded fellows are responsible for their own travel arrangements and health insurance. Fellows are required to be in continuous residence for the duration of the scholarship.

Requirements:
Applications are expected from scholars who:
- hold a university degree in visual culture, film studies, digital media or related fields (PhD level)
- have a track record of research, teaching and visual practice
- are fluent in English.

- a comprehensive CV
- a cover letter which indicates their research plans during the residence and intended contribution to the Visual Studies Platform activities and curriculum - a document which describes a concrete research project to be developed while in residence (max 1,500 words, which does not include references) - a proposed course syllabus to be taught as part of the Visual Theory and Practice curriculum

There is no restriction concerning citizenship, race, gender, or age.

Selection process:

Selection will be based on the submitted materials. However the selection committee reserves the right, if necessary for the decision, to ask for further elaboration of the project or proposed course as well as for letters of recommendation or a Skype interview.

Application schedule:

Application deadline: April 15, 2017 (midnight Central European Time).

Applicants will be notified at the latest by May 30, 2017.

Fellowships are awarded for the academic year 2017/18.
