*ONE-YEAR (RENEWABLE) POST-DOCTORAL KHALED AL’AS-AD FELLOWSHIPS, FOR
REFUGEES HOLDING A PH.D*

The applicant:
• must have refugee status or, at the moment they apply for the
fellowship, have submitted an application for refugee to the immigration
office of a member state of the European Union;
• must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work,
studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 24 months in the 3 years
immediately preceding recruitment (mobility rule).

APPLICATIONS:
Applications must be sent by email to Angélique Greindl
((agreindl /at/ ulb.ac.be)) by February 15th 2016 at the latest.
Applications must include:
• A research plan describing the scientific framework, the questions to
be addressed and the methodology.
• A copy of the PhD diploma or proof that the candidate successfully
passed all exams related to the PhD programme. If these documents cannot
be provided, applicants will have to provide a clear career description
proving that they have at least four years of full-time research
experience by the time of the call for applications.
• A CV, including a list of publications.
• Two letters of reference from scientists working in the same field
including, if possible, one from their PhD supervisor.
• A letter of acceptance from a member of ULB academic staff confirming
that the candidate, if successful, will be welcome in their group and be
offered the appropriate scientific environment. • A copy of the
applicant’s passport, a copy of the document confirming refugee status
if this has already been granted, and, if the applicant is already in
Belgium, a copy of an official document confirming date of entry to
Belgium. In the event of a successful application, the fellowship will
be awarded subject to the obtaining of refugee status.
The Research Department ((agreindl /at/ ulb.ac.be)) and the International
Service in the ULB’s External Relations Department can help candidates
identify and contact members of ULB academic staff working in their
field, in order to complete their application and design their research
project.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
End February/early March, applications will be submitted to the Board of
the Research Council, comprising members of academic staff from the main
research domains (Human and Social Sciences, Science and Technology,
Life Sciences)

and expanded to include the Vice-Rector for International Relations and
the Vice-Rector in charge of the coordination of the ULB’s actions in
favour of Syrian and Iraqi refugees. The panel members will receive a
copy of all applications at least two weeks before the panel meeting.
They will be asked to make their selection by ranking applications on
the basis of the following three criteria: the quality of the applicant,
the quality of the research project and the quality of the scientific
environment.

CRITERES D’ELIGIBILITE
Le candidat :
• a le statut de réfugié dans un pays membre de l'Union Européenne ou,
au moment de sa
demande de bourse, introduit un dossier auprès du Service Immigration
d'un pays membre de
l'Union Européenne.
• ne doit pas avoir résidé ou mené leur activité principale (travail,
études, etc.) en Belgique
depuis plus de 24 mois au cours des 3 années précédant immédiatement le
recrutement (règle de la mobilité).

INTRODUCTION DU DOSSIER
Les candidatures doivent être introduites par email à Angélique Greindl
((agreindl /at/ ulb.ac.be)) pour le 15 février 2016 au plus tard.
Les candidatures doivent comprendre :
• Un projet de recherche décrivant le contexte scientifique, les
questions adressées et la
méthodologie. • Une copie du diplôme de doctorat ou une preuve que le
candidat a passé avec succès tous les examens liés au programme de
doctorat. Dans le cas où ces documents ne peuvent être fournis, le
candidat devra fournir tous les éléments probants et une description de
carrière claire prouvant une expérience de recherche à temps plein d’au
moins quatre ans à la date de l’appel.
• Un CV, y compris une liste de publications.
• Deux lettres de référence de scientifiques œuvrant dans le même
domaine; une de ces lettres
devrait, si possible, émaner du directeur de thèse.
• Une lettre d'acceptation d'un membre du personnel académique de l’ULB
assurant, qu’en cas
de succès, le candidat sera accueilli dans le groupe de recherche et
bénéficiera de
l'environnement scientifique approprié.
• Une copie du passeport, une copie du document prouvant le statut de
réfugié dans un pays
membre de l’Union Européenne, si celui-ci a déjà été obtenu, et, si le
candidat se trouve déjà en Belgique, une copie du document officiel
indiquant la date d’enregistrement de l’entrée sur le territoire. Si la
bourse est accordée, elle sera attribuée sous réserve de l’obtention du
statut de réfugié.
Le Département Recherche ((agreindl /at/ ulb.ac.be)) et le Service
International du Département des Relations Extérieures de l'ULB aideront
les candidats à identifier et à prendre contact avec les membres du
personnel académique de l’ULB dans leur discipline pour élaborer leur
projet de recherche.

SELECTION DES PROJETS
Les demandes seront soumises au Bureau du Conseil de la Recherche fin
février/début mars, qui inclut des membres académiques couvrant les
principaux domaines de recherche (Sciences Humaines et Sociales,
Sciences et Techniques, Sciences de la Vie et de la Santé)

élargi au Vice-Recteur aux Relations Internationales et au Vice-Recteur
en charge de la coordination des actions de l’ULB en faveur des réfugies
syriens et irakiens. Les candidatures seront sélectionnées sur base des
trois critères suivants: la qualité du candidat, la qualité du projet de
recherche et la qualité de l'environnement scientifique.
