Position Summary: The University of Tampa is a medium-sized
comprehensive, private university that delivers challenging and high-quality
educational experiences to a diverse group of learners. The University
offers
more than 200 areas of study, including majors in our colleges of Arts and
Letters, Business, Natural and Health Sciences and Social Sciences, Math and
Education and 11 master's programs.
The Department of Communication of the College of Arts and Letters at The
University of Tampa seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor
(renewable term
appointment) in Communication studies to begin August 2016. Duties will
include teaching a load of 16 credit hours (four 4-credit courses) per
semester in
Communication in courses such as Mass Media & Society; Visual Literacy; and
Media Writing; along with participation in departmental activities and
administration as necessary.
The Department of Communication houses majors in Communication (with
specialized tracks), Film & Media Arts, and Advertising & Public
Relations, and
contributes to interdisciplinary majors in New Media Production and
Journalism.
We emphasize critical theoretical perspectives and creative production
skills in a
liberal arts context. Our curriculum is designed to explore meaningfully
critical
perspectives on media, culture, and political economy, even as it prepares
students to engage in creative production practice. We welcome innovative
pedagogies, and varied research agendas and traditions of scholarship.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Communication or a related field is required.
Candidates are expected to have experience in teaching and a commitment to
excellence in learning and engaging students beyond the classroom.
