[ecrea] World Social Forum (WSF) 2016 in Montreal

Sun Dec 13 21:00:52 GMT 2015

The World Social Forum (WSF) 2016 Collective has just launched its new
website <https://fsm2016.org/en>https://fsm2016.org/en/ and is now
inviting pre-registrations:

Thematic axes have also been announced:
and many provide interesting intersections for
media/comm/tech/internet/telecom, etc. scholarship and teaching. Please
consider taking a look at opportunities for research meet ups and much
more in Montreal next summer. In early 2016 a call will be circulated to
propose workshops, events, and much more.

Note that the 2016 edition of the WSF is the first since the Forum’s
inception in 2001 to be held in North America; the 2016 edition is also
the first to be organized by a collective. For those unfamiliar with the
Forum, the Jan/Feb 2016 issue of the /Canadian Journal of
Communication/ features a report from a research delegation that went to
the 2015 WSF in Tunis that we hope might offer some entry points for
scholars and students:

Couture, S., King, G., Toupin, S., Lentz, B. (forthcoming Jan/Feb 2016).
Can Media and Technology Help Make “Another World Possible”? Reflections
from the Media@McGill Research Delegation to the 2015 World Social Forum
in Tunisia [Research-in-Brief]. /Canadian Journal of Communication/, 41(1).

Volunteer opportunities are already available as are internships. Many
volunteer activities can be done remotely.
