Sound and the Screen
Friday 20th November 2015
A Symposium at the University of West London
Call for Papers
Exploring all aspects of the relationship between sound and the screen,
this event will be of interest to those working in many disciplines.
Scholars, students, practitioners and performers are equally welcome to
participate in a one day symposium with participants drawn from fields
including, but not limited to: Composition, Sound Design, Performance,
Film and Television Studies, Animation, Game and Interactive Design,
Psychology and Media Studies.
The field of sound and screen studies has witnessed in recent years an
extraordinary growth. The emergence of specialist journals such as The
Soundtrack and Music, Sound and the Moving Image, as well as a notable
number of theorisations of sound itself, testify to a dynamic field of
enquiry, encompassing an extraordinary diversity of practices,
approaches and applications.
This event seeks to chart contemporary debates and to explore future
avenues in individual disciplines as well as in the increasingly
innovative interstices and overlaps between fields of enquiry.
Abstracts of 200-300 words (for 20 minute papers), plus a short
biographical statement, should be submitted to the conference organisers
by August 4th 2015.
Confirmed speakers include the composer John Cameron and Dr Sandra
Pauletto, University of York.
Conference Fee
£45 (£25 for students/unwaged)
Conference includes morning tea/coffee, lunch (with music!), and an
evening drinks reception.
