[ecrea] PhD Studentship in Swansea UK: Internet-mediated environmentalism in China

We are delighted to announce that the application process for the new ESRC PhD Studentship at Swansea University is now open.



Swansea University College of Arts and Humanities, in association with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), invites applications for a 1+3 year PhD studentship in the area of Internet-mediated political mobilization in China: the case of environmental politics. The successful applicant will spend an initial year developing their research and language skills before completing the PhD over the following three year period. The three year PhD will include further language training in Beijing and fieldwork from a base in Hong Kong. The student will also be required to participate in training events organised by the ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre, especially events associated with the Language-Based Area Studies pathway. The research will be supervised by Dr Gerard Clarke and Dr Yan Wu.



The full studentship covers the cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a tax-free stipend at RCUK levels (currently £13,863.p.a.).

An additional £750 per annum Research Training Support Grant will be available in the doctoral phase.



The deadline for applications is Sunday 1st March 2015. Candidates are expected to have at least an upper second class honours degree in a relevant subject.
