Tenure-track assistant professor in Digital Media

Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in new media and visual studies with a critical and interdisciplinary approach to the history and theory of digital media. Areas of expertise might include: social media; digital literacies; new media and social advocacy; information design; publishing systems; graphic design and typography; design and technology studies; media and communication theory.



Candidates will be expected to contribute to curriculum development in our undergraduate and graduate programs, which afford faculty unique opportunities to teach and engage in research that both shapes and benefits from a rich multi-disciplinary environment. The Humanities Department offers undergraduate major degrees in English; Liberal Arts; Communication, Culture, and Media (CCM); and Scientific and Technical Communication (STC), and doctoral and master degrees in Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture (RTC). Within these programs, the Humanities Department features a Media Certificate, a Digital Media track within CCM, a Digital Rhetoric Track within STC, and a Media, Technology, and Visual Studies track within the graduate RTC program. The Humanities Department features a state-of-the-art media production and resource facility to support teaching and research (http://www.mtu.edu/humanities/hdmz).



Professional experience in graphic design, publishing, or other digital media development is desirable. The usual tenure-track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester. PhD in hand by August 15, 2015 strongly preferred. Please see our website: http://www.hu.mtu.edu.
