New thematic sections from Culture Unbound: ‘Writing at Borders’ and
‘Concurrences: Culture Bound and Unbound’
http://www.cultureunbound.ep.liu.se/current-volume.html
Culture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural Research is proud to
present two new thematic sections that give various perspectives on
concepts such as borders, mobility, narrativity and power. ‘Writing at
Borders’ is edited by Tuulikki Kurki, Saija Kaskinen, Kirsi Laurén &
Mari Ristolainen and focuses on the borders between Finland,
Soviet/Russia and the Baltic states to discuss how geographical, social,
and cultural borders have been reconceptualized from a territorially
placed boundary, to a semantically constructed, ritualized and performed
symbolic border, and finally to a discursive (textual) construction.
‘Concurrences’, edited by Diana Brydon, Peter Forsgren and Gunlög Fur,
engages with the postcolonial efforts to recover the voice and agency of
the subaltern and challenge monolithic imperial representations. These
articles investigate various cultural archives – formal and informal,
traditional and digital, fiction and documentary text – in order to map
multiple and concurring claims of reality, experience and meaning in
time and place.
