Open seminar: IT¹S A NEW WORLD FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT?
Two discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing activists,
NGOs, business, policy makers and media practitioners.
Session 1: Civic engagement alliances and partnerships
This session discusses the implications of both extra-parliamentarian
alliances and cross-sector partnerships, including
· What are the structural and cultural incentives that drive civic
engagement alliances and partnerships?
· How can we ensure that civic engagement through cross-sector
partnerships has a sound civic grounding and thus is socially sustainable?

This session discusses the opportunities and challenges to various forms
of civic engagement brought about by the proliferation of online media
platforms, including
· (How) can the media online and traditional facilitate the
enactment of alternative ways of organizing society and political
participation?
· Can online media platforms help sustain civic engagement?
· How do the current structures of governance and ownership affect
media uses online and traditional for civic engagement?
