Ernesto Laclau passes away at 78

Historian and political theorist Ernesto Laclau has passed away after 
suffering a stroke in the Spanish city of Seville, at 78 years of age.

Laclau's family told Telám that the intellectual had travelled to Spain 
from his home in London in order to give a guest conference.

The Argentine had been based in the English capital since 1968, and was 
well known as a lecturer at the University of Essex, where he gave 
classes on Political Theory and directed programs in Ideology and 
Discourse Analysis.

Among his best-known works feature "Populist reason" and "Socialist 
Hegemony and Strategy".

Former national senator Daniel Filmus was one of the first public 
figures to pay his respects to the late Laclau, praising the 
intellectual through his personal twitter account.

"Goodbye Ernesto Laclau. A great guy, a great thinker and fighter for 
the national and popular cause," the Malvinas Secretary affirmed.
