Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
The School of Humanities seeks to appoint one full-time lecturer within
the English and Film Studies Programme. Applicants should have a strong
record of high-quality research and innovative teaching, and demonstrate
potential for leadership. They would also be expected to apply for
external research funding, build networks and help attract postgraduate
students. Priority areas for development are the new MLitt in Film
Studies, and PhD student recruitment, as well as supporting the current
undergraduate provision. We would welcome applicants with expertise in
Film Studies and Visual Culture, Film Adaptation, Screenwriting, Film
and Comics/Graphic Novels, or other interdisciplinary approaches to Film.
The successful candidate will teach on undergraduate and postgraduate
degrees in English and Film, and will contribute to collaborative
teaching and research initiatives within and beyond the School of
Humanities. Candidates are expected to possess strong primary teaching
and research interests in one or more of the areas outlined above.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline.
Purpose of the Post
* To deliver high quality teaching in Film Studies and Visual Culture.
* To produce high quality research publications, grant
applications, projects and collaborations that achieve international
distinction in your specialist area.
* To contribute to the administration of the Programme and the School.
Principal duties
* Design and delivery of a range of undergraduate and postgraduate
modules.
* Teaching and supervision of postgraduate students.
* Publishing research articles and monographs.
* Leading and collaborating on research grant applications and
projects.
* Administration for the Programme and the School as specified by
the Dean and Learning and Teaching Co-ordinator.

Essential Criteria
The successful candidate will have:
* a completed PhD in an appropriate area
* high quality research publications
* experience of teaching Film Studies and Visual Culture
* the potential to develop future research grant funding
applications singly and in collaboration with others
Desirable Criteria
* experience in applying for external research funding
* experience of teaching Film Studies and Visual Culture at
postgraduate level
* experience of designing and co-ordinating modules
Any Additional Information
This is a permanent post. Salary to be negotiated based on experience
and current salary. Minimum starting salary £33,562 per annum.
Expected start date for the post is 1st September 2014. We hope to hold
interviews for this post on Monday 12th May 2014.
