Thu Feb 06 05:16:24 GMT 2014

Call for contributors for ‘Childhood & Celebrity’ book

We would like to invite chapter proposals for a new collection of essays entitled Childhood & Celebritywhich is being co-edited by Jane O’Connor and John Mercer at Birmingham City University. The proposed book aims to explore the phenomenon of childhood celebrity by reflecting on the cultural and social aspects of children’s fame in a variety of international contexts. The idea is to bridge the gap between Childhood Studies and Cultural Studies in this area and bring together scholars from different disciplines who are writing about/researching different aspects of child fame, performance and stardom, both in Western culture and internationally. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may be able to contribute a chapter based on child stardom from an International perspective.

Possible topics of chapters include (but are not limited to):

- Case studies of child or teen stars from Western or non-Western cultures

- Child beauty pageants

- Child stars of film and TV (including reality TV)

- Children of celebrities

- Children’s aspirations to be famous

- Global aspects of child stardom

If you are interested in being a contributor, please email a proposal of your chapter (200-300 words) and a short biography (150 words) to Jane or John at the email addresses below by 1 March 2014.
