The Ninth International Labor Film & Video Festival*

The Fifth International Labor and Communication Conference, intended to 
bring together academics and activists working on labor and 
communication issues, will be held on 3-4 May in Ankara-Turkey.

CALL FOR PAPERS

In recent years, social movements have gained momentum all around the 
world and the importance of communication and communication technologies 
has been increased. From now on, those in power consider the Internet 
not only an indispensable part of new accumulation strategies but also a 
real threat against their supremacy. Therefore, intensification of 
surveillance on the Internet has become obvious and regulations for 
Internet restrictions are often at the top of the agenda. In contrast, 
relatively free spaces on the Internet are expanding while communication 
and organization developed in these spaces become concrete in the 
squares of cities. LaborComm 2014 aims to produce knowledge related to 
these experiences and explore possibilities for the emancipation of 
labor and communication. In addition to this main theme, specific for 
this year, all papers concerning intersections of labor and 
communication are also welcomed according to fundamental objective of 
the organization.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

·         Political economy of communication and new communication networks

·         Labor and labor processes in contemporary social conditions

·         New information and communication technologies in production 
processes

·         Working class organizations and communication networks

·         New conceptualizations of society based on development of 
communication networks  (such as knowledge society, information society, 
network society, etc.) and their validity

·         Consequences of the Gezi Resistance in Turkey and other social 
movements all around the world

·         The social subject of new social movements

·         Using Marxists concepts for explaining social movements

·        Potentials and obstacles on organization, cooperation and 
resistance that are and can be created through  new information and 
communication technologies

31 March 2014: Deadline for abstract submission (max. 500 words) to

9. Uluslararasi Isçi Filmleri Festivali Kapsaminda

Emek ve iletisim üzerine düsünen, çalisan ve siyaset üreten 
akademisyenler ve aktivistler 5. Uluslararasi Isçi ve Iletisim 
Konferansi’nda bir araya geliyorlar. Konferans, bu yil dokuzuncusu 
düzenlenen Uluslararasi Isçi Filmleri Festivali kapsaminda 3-4 Mayis 
2012 tarihlerinde Ankara’da gerçeklestirilecektir.

ÇAGRI

Geçtigimiz birkaç yil tüm dünyada ve Türkiye’de toplumsal hareketlerin 
yükseldigi ve bu çerçevede iletisim ve iletisim aglarinin önem kazandigi 
bir dönem oldu. Egemenler interneti artik sadece yeni birikim 
stratejilerinin ayrilmaz bir parçasi olarak degil, ayni zamanda kendi 
egemenliklerine yönelen büyük bir tehdit olarak da görmeye basladilar. 
Bu çerçevede internet üzerindeki izleme faaliyetlerinin giderek 
tirmandigi açiga çikarken, internetin sinirlandirilmasina yönelik 
düzenlemeler de giderek daha fazla gündeme geliyor. Ancak diger yandan 
internet üzerindeki görece özgür alanlarin sinirlari genisliyor ve 
buralardaki iletisim ve örgütlenme kent meydanlarinda somutlasiyor. 
LaborComm 2014, bu alanda yasanan deneyimlerin bilgisini üretmeyi ve 
ileriye dönük olarak emegin ve iletisimin özgürlesim olanaklarini 
degerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadir. Bunun yani sira düzenlenme amacina uygun 
olarak iletisim ve emegin kesistigi tüm alanlara iliskin çalismalari 
beklemektedir.



Konferansin temel sorulari/sorunlari (sadece bunlarla sinirli olmamakla 
birlikte):

·         Iletisimin ve yeni iletisim aglarinin ekonomi politigi

·         Güncel toplumsal kosullar altinda emek ve emek süreçleri

·         Üretim süreçlerinde yeni bilgi ve iletisim teknolojileri

·         Isçi sinifi örgütleri ve iletisim aglari

·         Iletisim aglarindaki gelismeler temel alinarak 
kuramsallastirilan toplum biçimleri (bilgi toplumu, enformasyon toplumu, 
ag toplumu, vs…) ve bu kuramlarin geçerliligi

·         Gezi direnisi ve diger yeni toplumsal hareketlerin ortaya 
çikardiklari

·         Yeni toplumsal hareketlerin, toplumsal öznesi

·         Toplumsal hareketlerin açiklanmasinda Marksist kuramin 
kavramlarinin ise kosulmasi

·         Bilgi ve iletisim teknolojileri araciligiyla yaratilan ve 
yaratilabilecek örgütlenme, dayanisma ve direnisin önündeki imkânlar ve 
engeller

Konferans Takvimi:

31 Mart 2014: Bildiri özetlerinin son gönderilme tarihi. Bildiri 
özetleri (azami 500 kelime) (info /at/ laborcomm.org) adresine gönderilecektir.

4 Nisan 2014: Kabul edilen bildirilerin duyurulmasi.

25 Nisan 2014: Bildiri metinlerinin son gönderilme tarihi. Tam metinler 
(info /at/ laborcomm.org) adresine gönderilecektir.
