*Expressions of the Indian civil societies*

Like many countries under the pressure of globalization, India searches
new models of organization inside and outside the country. This series
of conferences will explore different aspects of the actual Indian civil
societies such as creative communities, expressions of the citizens and
impacts of EU India relations in people's life.

*20 January 14.00-17.30 - Hybrid Innovations and Civil Societies, an
innovation&  design half-day workshop *

This workshop will explore the claim that "Civil Societies are creative
communities bringing innovation and driving the design of their day to
day living context". The notion of creative communities will be
challenged in different contexts (India, Europe) and their added values
in societies where they are taking the lead in the development of their
well being despite a large set of constraints.

*21 January 9.30 -- 17.00 -- The voice of the society in the Indian
culture, an academic workshop *

This workshop will explore the role of the civil society and its
articulation with the authorities, the mass media and the strategy it
elaborates. Indian and European participants will discuss interesting
questions such as:

· Civil Society Movements in India: A case of Bahujan Samaj Movement

· Corporate Lobbying in India-Public: Perception and Need for a Law

· Indian Use of Social Media: Controls and Opportunities

· Redefining the role of Think Tanks in empowering the civil society and
governance of modern India

*22 January 9.30 -- 13.00 - Impacts of the EU-India FTA on Human and
Social Rights, an open format Workshop*

In the EU India relations, the free trade agreement (FTA) in discussion
raises questions about the environment, the labor rights, more broadly
on the role and place of the civil society. Two round tables will
challenge the topic:

This event will be open to all interested audience (targeting more or
less a total of 50 participants). The workshop will be divided into two
parts of each 90 minutes with a coffee break in between. Each part will
consist of a keynote speech, followed by a panel debate and a Q&A session.

9.30-11.00 EU-India FTA: Safeguarding the environment and labour rights

How can we make sure that labour rights and environmental considerations
are safeguarded with the greatest care during FTA negotiations?
Particularly regarding such issues as labour rights, women,
sustainability, agriculture poverty, food security and the accessibility
of basic products.

11.30-13.00 Civil society and the FTA

What is the impact of the FTA on EU and Indian Civil Society? Specific
focus in this session is on the role of the media and cooperation
between the EU and India CSO's in voicing concerns and addressing
challenges.
