Introduction
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are wielding an
unimaginable influence on global activities. It is restructuring
politics/governance, economy, culture, health etc in many countries and
regions around the world. Information and communication technologies
provide a great development opportunity by contributing to information
dissemination, providing an array of communication capabilities,
increasing access to the knowledge among others. It has been accepted
globally by individuals and groups as tool for pursuing their common
goals and enhancing their interests. Women in their quest for
empowerment and societal recognition have adopted and accepted ICT as an
instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women as well as for
speedy global mobilization and dissemination of information. Women have
long been aware of the power of information and knowledge sharing as a
strategy for mobilization, advancement and empowerment. But does
acceptance translate into utilization?
Has the embrace and acceptance of ICT as a facilitating tool delivered
in the empowerment drive by women in developing nations and beyond? How
are women utilizing the supposed enormous opportunities of ICT for
empowerment? What is the access status? What are the impacts? Are there
challenges and strides? Has there been an enhanced visibility of woman
in Socio-political, cultural, economic landscapes as a result of the
utilization of ICT? What changes have ICT utilization generated among
women in developing nations and beyond?
This book seeks to address these questions through empirical analyses
and qualitative discourses, agglomerates several perspectives regarding
the visibility of women empowerment and bridging the gender inequality

beyond. The book would be an essential, critical guide for understanding
