[ecrea] Funded PhDs in Digital and Creative Media, Media Practices and Cultures, Film Studies and Popular Culture – University of Brighton

Doctoral studentships in Media at University of Brighton

The School of Art, Design and Media at the University of Brighton is currently inviting applications for fully-funded doctoral studentships (stipend and fee waiver) to join our PhD programme in Media, embracing single-disciplinary, interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research in Digital and Creative Media, Media Practices and Cultures, Film Studies and Popular Culture.
We particularly welcome proposals in the following areas :

(a) Digital Activism and Audiences – the nature of online communities, digital storytelling, design and creativity, activism, resistance and empowerment, transmedia, questions of ageing, disability, gender and sexuality.

 (b) Media Practices and Screen Cultures - creative and digital media practices, cultures and economies, practice, policy and education, film and documentary, photography, videogames and popular media culture.

 (c) Media and Sustainability – environmental communication and media, climate communication and engagement, smart technologies and sustainable mobilities, everyday life, media industries and sustainability.

We particularly welcome applications that engage with communities, business, policy or the public and civil sectors.

Application should be made to the Doctoral Centre in the College of Arts and Humanities which offers AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) funded studentships through TECHNE, a cross-university Doctoral Training Partnership. The Doctoral Centre is also able to award some University of Brighton funded studentships.

Potential applicants are advised to identify a potential supervisor to work with in formulating their application, and to ensure that the ‘fit’ between the proposed project and the research context and environment at the University of Brighton is clearly articulated.

The deadline for applications to study at the University of Brighton in October 2015 is 4pm, 23 January 2015.
