FUNDED PHDS IN FILM, TELEVISION AND MEDIA ARTS AT ROYAL HOLLOWAY,
UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London is
inviting applicants to our PhD programme.
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Royal Holloway is a member of
TECHNE (with the Royal College of Art,
the University of Arts London, Kingston University, the University of
Roehampton, the University of Brighton and
the University of Surrey), a consortim that was recently awarded an AHRC
Block Grant Partnership.
THIS PROVIDES STUDENTSHIPS OF THREE YEARS MAINTENANCE AT £15,863 PER
YEAR AND THREE YEARS FULL-TIME FEES FOR UK STUDENTS AND FULL-TIME FEES
FOR EUROPEAN STUDENTS. Students who apply for a TECHNE award will be
considered automatically for College Scholarships.
Media Arts has a wide variety of recognized strengths in research,
ranging from modernist art practices to British
cinema to TV history and aesthetics. At present we particularly seek
proposals in the areas of
*ASIAN CINEMAS
*TRANSNATIONAL AND DIASPORIC CINEMAS and
*FILM AESTHETICS IN EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN CINEMAS.

It is a distinctive feature of Media Arts' research culture that staff
and students engage in both conventional
scholarship and theoretically-informed practice. Applications for
doctoral research in creative practice are welcomed.
