[ecrea] Research Assistants at Cardiff University: Digital surveillance (media coverage and tech infrastructure)

The Cardiff School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies (JOMEC) is 
looking to appoint two Research Assistants to work as part of the 
ESRC-funded project "Digital Citizenship and Surveillance Society: UK 
State-Media-Citizen Relations After the Snowden Leaks".

The project aims to explore the nature, opportunities and challenges of 
digital citizenship in light of the surveillance measures revealed by 
whistle-blower Edward Snowden, focusing on the themes of policy, 
technology, civil society, and news media. See

One of the two Research Assistants will conduct research on the media 
representation of the Snowden leaks, narratives of online surveillance, 
and challenges to press freedom in light of the Snowden leaks. The other 
will focus on the technical infrastructure of digital surveillance and 
on technical tools and software solutions that protect privacy.



The positions are part-time and for a fixed term of 6 months (RA Media) 
and 12 months (RA Technology).
