Faculty Opening Beginning Fall 2015
Assistant Professor of Communication Studies

The University of Michigan, Department of Communication Studies seeks applicants for a tenure track assistant professor position in Political Communication. Our expanding department emphasizes the interdisciplinary study of the mass media and new media. We seek scholars to complement current faculty interests and strengths. Anticipated starting date is September 1, 2015; this is a university-year appointment.

We seek a quantitative social scientist who studies the societal and individual effects of traditional and/or emerging media and whose methods include experiments, surveys, quantitative content analysis or other social science techniques. Areas of particular interest are the effects of media on politics and public policy or on political attitudes; the news media and politics; public opinion and civic engagement; the interplay between polls, politicians and the media; new political and policy regimes resulting from digital technologies; the effects of partisan media; media priming and framing; processes leading to patterns of political communication, as well as the effects of these processes; the media and political socialization; political advertising; the effects of political communication on attitudes towards race, gender and class; media and voter behavior; and new media and political behavior.

Completed Ph.D. by September 2015 expected.
