The Faculty of Applied Language Studies of University College Ghent is seeking to appoint an assistant lecturer on a fixed-term contract
Position
GTT C 102
Assistant lecturer on a fixed-term contract in the subject area of Multilingual and Intercultural Communication - 100% of a full-time position

Admission criteria
* PhD level qualification in the domains of Language and Literature, Translation Studies or Communication Studies. This criterion must be met by the date of appointment; * Compliance with the provisions of Article 89 of University Colleges Decree.

Description of duties
The assistant lecturer has a threefold task, namely in research, education, and the provision of services.

Research (70%):
The assistant lecturer will contribute to, and take initiatives in, the field of the faculty's research area of 'multilingual communication'. The emphasis is on communication within organisations from a multilingual and/or inter-cultural point of view. The assistant lecturer will valorise research results, not least by publishing own research results and by setting up and supervising research projects.

Education (30% maximum):
The assistant lecturer will give lectures in the master in multilingual communication and supervise bachelor and master dissertations. The precise teaching content will be assigned in consultation with the section and the master's course, having taken into consideration the successful applicant's expertise.

Provision of services:
The assistant lecturer will take active part in the day-to-day running of the faculty and the section, as well as the faculty's provision of services to third parties, both at scientific and community level.

Profile description
* The applicant has clear views about the faculty's research area of 'multilingual communication' as scientific basis for the master in multilingual communication. By way of documentation, the applicant will enclose in his/her application one A4 page maximum, detailing his/her views in this area. * The applicant is prepared to carry out research into the internal communication of organisations from an intercultural/multilingual perspective with a specific focus on change management. The applicant is prepared to carry out systematic research into language and culture-specific (and cross-cultural) communication strategies, with due attention for speech acts. The research seeks to pinpoint possible weaknesses/areas of improvement which are subsequently fed back to the businesses involved. The applicant will therefore enclose a research proposal of four A4 pages maximum which will at least contain the following aspects: problem, research question and objective, methodology, work packages and plan with output, relevance and bibliography. * The applicant is knowledgeable about prevailing theoretical culture models and the question whether these offer an explanation for attested communication strategies. * The applicant has gained relevant experience in research into the communication of organisations, multilingualism and/or interculturality, which has led to highly regarded publications. The applicant has proven his/her ability to set up, supervise and coordinate research projects, and prefers to form part of an international research network. * The applicant has the necessary didactic competences to teach at academic level, and will be asked to demonstrate this in a trial lesson. He/she is capable of integrating the results of his/her research into education. He/she is interested, and experienced, in innovative teaching strategies, and is familiar with ICT tools and electronic learning environments. Didactic experience in higher education may be considered an added asset. * The applicant is able to organise his/her tasks efficiently and has excellent social and communication skills. In addition, he/she works well in a team. * The applicant is multilingual and has at least reached knowledge level B2 for Dutch.

Appointment
Appointment based on a two-year contract, starting not before 15 March 2013 and not after 15 September 2013.

Salary scale
509

In accordance with Article 140 of the University Colleges Decree, alongside length of service in the public sector, a maximum of 10 years in the private sector may also be taken into consideration.
