Invitation & Call For Abstracts
‘Voices of Resistance’: Communication and Social Justice
Communication Graduate Research and Discourse Conference 2013
The Pennsylvania State University, March 16, 2013
For decades, protesters, academics and activists have called for action
via media to raise awareness about the various
issues that plague the world’s population. The Comm GRAD Forum (CGF)
seeks submissions regarding any work on any aspect of media, social
justice and activism. This conference hopes to highlight how theory
meets practice in scholarship that addresses the relationship between
communications and social justice.
Keynote speaker Dr. Robert Jensen from University of Texas, Austin, and
hip hop artist/activist Jasiri X and artist/activist Paradise Gray will
be joining the conversation.
We encourage graduate and undergraduate students, and faculty from all
disciplines to share papers, proposals,
reviews, critiques, ideas, and projects that address and question social
justice issues, including but not limited to:
· Issues of Media Representation *
· Rhetoric
· Economic Inequality
· Racial discrimination
· Gender disparities
· Political and Cultural oppression
· Environmentalism
· Classism
· Sexuality
· Human rights
· Education
· Ethnicity and religion
If you are interested in having your work considered for this
conference, please submit an abstract of no more than
300 words to (commgradconference /at/ gmail.com) by January 20, 2013. We also
welcome submissions of complete sessions of 3-4 papers on a common
theme, panel discussions, or other formats.
If you have questions regarding the conference, please contact us at:
