Job opportunity: READER IN CHINESE MEDIA

The University of Westminster is expanding its research capacity to build resilience in areas of established strength. Supported by substantial investment, the New Academic Leaders Initiative launches the appointment of three Professors and two Readers who will take on the responsibility and the ambition of enhancing the profile of this teaching-focused and research-informed University.

The post is based in the Department for Journalism and Mass Communications, and the successful candidate will join the Communication and Media Research Institute, rated #1 in the UK for media and communications research in the most recent RAE (2008).

The China Media Centre was established in 2005. It has developed remarkable networks in the Chinese and British media through its Innovation Programmes for media professionals. It at present contains one Professor and two Research Fellows, Visiting Fellows from Chinese institutions and 5 PhD candidates.

There are approximately 50 Chinese media professionals undertaking MAs in the School of Media, Arts and Design per year, taught by highly qualified and multilingual staff.

We are looking for:

* Scholarly experience within Chinese media, which may include social, political or cultural implications and/or the development of the creative and media industries.
* The ability to undertake a leading role in enhancing the research record and external reputation of both the School and the University including developing proposals for research projects.
* Experience of Chinese culture and an ability to command respect from Chinese opinion formers and decision-makers.
* A confident teacher whose teaching can be used to enhance various courses in the School.
* Someone able to work together in our multinational team dealing with British and Chinese media professionals and to mediate between the different cultures.
