5-year Professorship in Performance Design

The Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies at Roskilde University, Denmark, invites applications for a 5-year position as Professor in Performance Design to be filled by the 1st of January 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

We are interested in applicants with expertise in the area of our department of Performance Design, namely the methods and theories for analyzing the culture and experience of performances in a broad sense, including both art-oriented genres such as theatre and concerts as well as popular culture events such as rock festivals, dance music club events, etc. The design element is associated with methods of production and organization.

Performance Design is still a new program, still at a formative stage in terms of disciplinarity. The successful applicant is expected to continue the ongoing consolidating and shaping of the academic dimensions of Performance Design, including a balanced approach between academic and practical elements of the research fields relevant to Performance Design.

The applicant appointed will join, and are expected to play a leading role in, the versatile group of scholars in Performance Design, which is characterized by interdisciplinarity, plurality, and innovativeness, within a broad variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. More specifically, the successful applicant will join the research group: Visual Culture and Performance Design.

The applicant appointed must
* be able to teach and supervise students in Performance Design, at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels.
* have international research qualifications at the professorial level, and be able to document experience with research management and ability to attract external funding.
* have a large international scholarly and educational network.
* have a command of Danish (or Swedish/Norwegian) and English sufficient to be able to teach and supervise effortlessly in Danish, and to participate in administrative and collegial activities.

Appointment as a professor requires a broad foundation in theory and research within the field and documented scientific production at an international level as well as qualifications and competence from professional leadership responsibilities. Applicants should also be able to contribute actively to the continued development of the department’s educational and research environment. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking a broad array of teaching responsibilities.

It would be an advantage if you had experiences from interdisciplinary work at university level, but it is not a requirement.

Appointment as professor takes place in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

* Your CV, examination certificates and a numbered list of publications with an indication of which publications you wish to draw particular attention to. Please note that applicants should send up to a maximum of 10 publications of their choice with their application. The appointments committee may request additional material mentioned in the application.
* Details of your experience in research, teaching, communication and administration. As far as possible experience must be documented.
* A brief description of the research and developmental work you expect to carry out as professor.
* A short paper (3-5 pages) on your visions for the development of research and teaching within the field of performance-design for the next five year period.
