International Journal of Communication (IJoC) Special Section on New Media
in International Contexts
                               Just Published
IJoC is pleased to announce the publication of a special section, New Media
in International Contexts, co-edited by Heather Horst and Cara Wallis. This
special section explores the relationship between new media practices,
policies, and industries as these are constitutive of social change in five
countries: Brazil (Heather Horst), China (Cara Wallis), Ghana (Araba Sey),
India (Anke Schwittay), and South Korea (HyeRyoung Ok).

Each case study reveals the continued salience of the national context
through highlighting how particular sociocultural, economic, and political
conditions shape the use and appropriation of new media technologies.
Particular attention is paid to the way youth in each country are at the
forefront of such appropriation. The articles also address how other axes of
identity, such as gender, class, and ethnicity, are critical in shaping uses
and understandings of new media.
