Mon Apr 11 20:40:48 GMT 2011

Just a quick reminder of two preconferences at ICA 2011 in Boston where some places are still available:

First our division's main preconference on The Future of Public Media: Participatory Models, Global Networks (sponsored by the Philosophy of Communication with co-sponsorship by Communication Law and Policy, Popular Communication and Journalism Divisions)

Time: Thursday, 26 May 13:00 – 17:00
Location: Westin Waterfront Hotel, Boston, Massachusetts
Cost: $ 50.00 USD (Includes afternoon refreshments)

This preconference — organized by Patricia Aufderheide and Jessica Clark of American University’s Center for Social Media (CSM) in consultation with organizers of the annual Re-Visionary Interpretations of the Public Enterprise (RIPE) conference — is designed to both showcase original thinking about participatory public media, and to expand upon a global network of scholars and practitioners examining related questions.

The preconference will feature short presentations from invited speakers, who will discuss how their pioneering work on public media in the networked age might inform policy and practice.

Speakers will include:
•	Patricia Aufderheide of American University, Washington DC
•	Sean Jacobs of the New School for Social Research New York and formerly the Institute for Democracy, Cape Town, South Africa
•	Graham Murdock of Loughborough University, UK
•	Vibodh Parthasarathi of the Centre for Culture, Media& Governance, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India

26th May 2011 9.00-17.00
