Why and in what ways do people use different media? How are experiences
and meanings in the daily uses of media evolving? Do individual media
users add up to collective subjects called audiences? Or do people
rather constantly shift back and forth between audiencing and acting in
various other media-related roles? How are audiences constructed, by
whom and for what purposes? What is happening to practices of use along
with digitalization and the increasing popularity of personalized,
networked and mobile media forms?

Welcome to a multidisciplinary conference in Aalto University where we
will discuss people‚ media relations, user experience and the methods of
empirical audience research. Conference is part of the European audience
research network Transforming audiences, transforming societies‚ (COST

evolving audience practices in different countries and encourage
