*Screen Plays: Theatre Plays on British Television* is a three-year
AHRC-funded research project to document British television
presentations of plays originally written for the stage and to develop
new critical approaches to this work. The aim is to index and explore
this central component of programming from 1930 to the present day
through a freely accessible database of information about productions,
together with screenings, conferences and a book. The project will
introduce formal and historical analysis to the discussion of theatre
plays on television, as well as a focus on the screen language of
television plays. The results of the project will be shared and
discussed throughout the research period on a lively public blog.
The research project is looking for a full-time research associate who
will work with the project’s Principal Investigator John Wyver. The
research associate will be responsible for collecting and collating
information about television productions from a wide variety of
published and archival sources; entering this information into
structured databases; conducting literature and database searches;
preparing for and conducting interviews with participants in the history
of production of theatre plays for television; and ensuring that results
are written up and outcomes are presented to the individual or bodies
sponsoring or supervising the research. The research associate will also
be expected to contribute to the production of regular blog posts,
research reports and publications.
The post holder should hold a post-graduate qualification, preferably in
the arts, humanities or social science area. He/she should have a strong
