*The Diasporic Family in Cinema*

The conference examines the representation of the diasporic family in
contemporary European cinema, Hollywood and Bollywood. It provides a
platform for dialogue with filmmakers and producers and aims to explore
how they negotiate between their artistic ambitions, the demands of the
public funding bodies and the market in their construction of diasporic
family life on screen.
In conjunction with the conference, there will be a film screening of
/When We Leave/ (/Die Fremde/, dir. Feo Aladag, Germany 2010) at the
Ciné Lumiére, starting at 6pm, followed by a Q&A session with the director.
