[ecrea] CfP: Globalization, Transnationalism and Narration /24-26 November, Istanbul

The English Language and Literature Department of Doðuþ University is pleased to announce

an international conference,
Globalization, Transnationalism and Narration, to be held on 24-

26 November, 2010 at Doðuþ University, Istanbul, Turkey. While grounded in literature, the

conference engages the intersections between literature and other disciplinary fields, including

history, sociology, politics, anthropology, film studies, gender and cultural studies and how

these fields read narrative texts. The keynote speakers are Professor Rey Chow, Anne Firor

Scott Professor of Literature, Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, Duke University and

Professor Suman Gupta, Open University, UK, author of Literature and Globalization.

We are currently soliciting proposals for 20-minute presentations in the conference. Possible

topics may include but are not limited to:

-globalization as thematized in film and literature

-globalization processes and narrative texts

-transnational migrations and nation states

-transfiction and transnational communities

-displacement, dispersion and diaspora

-literature of exile

-travel literature

-inhabiting multiple identities

-identities and border crossings: double encounters

-gender across borders

-colonialism, postcolonialism and nationalism

-multiculturalism and narrative

Please submit a proposal of 250 to 300 words, including title, abstract, presenter, academic

affiliation, as well as phone and e-mail contact, by May 3, 2010 to Hülya Güler at

Presenters will be notified of acceptance by May 14, 2010.

Selected presentations from the conference will be considered for publication.

Registration fee: 140 USD/ 100 Euro/ 200 TL for academics; 100 TL for graduate students;

100 TL for single-day attendance.
